Clematis - Invasive or Native?

There are two species of Clematis that may be found in our area. Sweet Autumn Clematis (Clematis terniflora) is a climbing invasive vine currently in bloom. It is often seen along the stream in Laurel Green Park. It can be easily confused with Virgin’s Bower (Clematis virginiana) which is a native in the same genus.
